Agate was one of the first known gem
materials. In ancient times, as far back as 3000 B.C., banded agates
were often cut to look like an eye, and were worn or carried as
protection from the ìevil eye.î These protective talismans were
extremely valuable and often handed down from one generation to the
next. It was believed that the older they were, the more power they
held.
